The WCDC Redemption and Shredding Center

The Redemption Center was opened on May 15, 2017,by WCDC Inc. for two purposes:  1) To provide jobs in the community for disabled adults at minimum wage or above; 2) To fill a need in the community (and surrounding areas) of redeeming of $.05 cans and bottles.  This was done through a partnership with Hy-Vee/Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits, Walmart, and Fareway stores.  Hy-Vee, Walmart, and Fareway pay for the mortgage, utilities and insurance for WCDC Inc.

WCDC Redemption Center pays the customer 5 cents per bottle/can.  This is state law.  WCDC Redemption Center sells the cans and bottles that you return to one of the different distributors for 6 cents (Golden Eagle-Bud, Fleck-Miller, Pepsi, Coke, Mid-Continent, and Crink- Wine /Liquor bottles) and makes 1 cent per bottle/can.

The WCDC Redemption Center averages approximately 15,000 cans and bottles returned per day.  As you can see, our margin is tight (15,000 x .01=$150 per day).  Your donation of cans/bottles or proceeds is very important to us.

How you can help us and yourself?
  1. Bring in full clear plastic bags that are sorted to cans (240+), small bottles (120+) or 2 liter bottles (40+).  (We sell the bags for 40 cents, exactly what we pay for them.  We also sell the box to hold the bag for $10.)

  2. Use larger bags instead of small grocery sacks tied off.

  3. If you are not using a box or large plastic bag, bring items back more frequently.

  4. Saturday is usually a very busy time.

  5. Do not leave liquids in a bottle or can.  Distributors will not take bottles or cans with a beverage still in it.  We must empty it.

  6. Make sure your cans or bottles are clean. (No Cigarette butts, bugs, etc.) WCDC Can Redemption reserves the right not to accept or ask patrons to dump the cans/bottles into a tub and remove their garbage.
